Sinking, Swimming, Soaring
SINKING…
The story is the sack of rocks weighing you down in the water. You know the story the one where you have been done wrong, you are alone, no one loves you yada, yada, yada. We all have our story that “defines” who we are because without it who are you? The truth is that your story gave you a narrative to live your life by so you could have the justifications and excuses for your bad behavior or poor choices made because your story demanded you act that way because of “what happened to you.” The more and more this cycle plays over and over and over the deeper you sink into the abyss of unhappiness, complacency and a life by default. life gives you choice sink or swim, or so I thought. Both those choices involve struggle and for a long time those were the only choices I was choosing to have or rather look at my life through. If I don’t swim, I'll sink, if I sink I die, I give up. If I swim though I just don’t die? Where am I swimming to? Am I just swimming to stay just above water? That’s what it felt like, I wasn’t swimming, I was treading water so I wouldn't sink. That’s honestly what my life felt like and I wanted to give up and just sink.
SWIMMING…
I decided to give myself a direction to swim towards because in my mind I was in the middle of the ocean with nothing in sight, again treading, so I created direction. I was swimming away from the same old story, the narrative that was dictating my experience in life and I traded it in for a new narrative that I was creating, with every stroke, swimming towards my dream life, my goals, my passions, my search to get in touch with the woman above it all. I swam with tears leaving behind struggle, the old me the stagnant complacent unhappy me…
SOARING…
As I swam with the intention of reaching my goals, toward this new life, new me something incredible happened, I was lifted out of the water by a burst of fresh air and with a force of the wind that gently but firmly held me up, and just as if I was swimming in the water I stroked the air with this feeling of freedom and although the fear was there it seemed beneath me as if it was the water, and the air, the air was fearless, free and light. That’s how I felt, fearless and free, soaring above my fears…I exhaled and let go and soared. I am still soaring. I am creating my dream life because the view of it from up here is so clear, doesn't seem so out of reach anymore and the more I soar the more enjoyment I am experiencing on my new journey creating my amazing life, being my best self, and the freedom of it all…
